hidden gem hotels
While in Bangkok in 2011, we stayed in what remains one of our top five hotels ever. This is saying something, given that it cost $60/night and we’ve stayed in our fair share of fun and funky places. We have even sent several friends there over there years, all to rave reviews. Here is a short ode to our favourite Bangkok hotel, written 13 January, 2011. Oh, and by the way, it’s now ranked 5th of all hotels on Trip Advisor, not 6th…

While the memories are still fresh, we wanted to do a little shout-out post about the hotel where we stayed in Bangkok.  We realize we’ve mentioned it twice already, but when you find a great place, you basically just want everyone to know.  I would characterize  as quirky, comfortable and off-the-grid.  At $60 a night, it’s actually not super-cheap (maybe mid-range), but the ambiance certainly makes up for it.Here are some shots of the exterior and main hang-out common area, which is covered but outdoors:

One of the greatest things about PN, is that the included breakfasts are something to write home about.  They are vegetarian and amazing.  One morning we were served fresh coconut water (including shavings of fresh coconut) and another morning we had freshly squeezed watermelon juice.  We had French toast, poached eggs and fresh fruit we couldn’t even identify.

In the evenings, we would bring down our iPad and play Scrabble in the common area, or mess around online while drinking smoothies and beer (not included in the room price but quite reasonable at $2 and $1 respectively).  When we left Bangkok at the ungodly hour of 5am, the staff gave us a sandwich and freshly squeezed juice to take along. If you’re in Bangkok, and don’t stay here, you are doing yourself a disservice.

If you’re even contemplating Bangkok, I would just go ahead and book your trip, provided you can get a room at this lovely hotel.  Oh, and if you don’t believe my raves, check out what others on Trip Advisor have to say – this property is the 6th highly ranked in the city…yes, it’s true!
