Abu Dhabi: A Photo Essay

I wanted to share some photos of the detailing we saw in a few buildings in Abu Dhabi.  Islamic art is unique in that there are no depictions of animals or humans, so the decorative elements of many structures are ornate and rather remarkable flowers or patterns, often with a dizzying array of colors and textures.  Lots of gold leaf, mother of pearl and crystals as well of course, a sign of the opulence of modern Abu Dhabi.  I have never seen so many gilded handrails and chair legs in my life!  But the results can be spectacular and truly stunning.
